Novotel and Olympic Way

A new landmark on the Wembley skyline, with a 19-storey oval tower that showcases the design flexibility of the volumetric approach.

The Novotel and Olympic Way development in Wembley was a key first piece of the masterplan for the regeneration of the public route from Wembley Park Underground station to Wembley Stadium.

The project consisted of three main elements: a 11-storey hotel, an 19-storey residential block with 131 high-specification private apartments, and a connecting 5-storey affordable homes building.

The scheme offers a model for large-scale, mixed-use regeneration, blending public and private space, different types of tenure and a range of retail units beneath the podium level of the hotel building.

Innovation inbuilt

The 19-storey residential block was an opportunity to showcase the flexibility of the Vision Volumetric system. Oval in plan, it required a number of different-shaped 3D units, up to 3.9m wide and 10.5m long, and with angled outer walls.

These were placed around an 8.2m × 6.8m concrete slip-formed core, which had been constructed in advance. A neat innovation was the design of the integral balcony structure, which doubled as the scaffolding during construction.
