Tide is committed to acting responsibly both through our own business operations and through the delivery of exemplar projects.

As a sector, the built environment has a crucially important role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, both from construction activities and throughout a building’s operational life. We also understand that our work has a critical role to play in addressing not just the climate crisis but also the UK’s urgent housing shortage.

Furthermore, resource efficiency and biodiversity enhancement opportunities need to be realised. Similarly, the UK housing crisis, underpinned by a shortage of supply and an increased demand, requires rapid, socially responsible and innovative resolution.

1. Enhancing our communities

We are creating the sustainable communities of the future. Volumetric development can unlock constrained inner-city sites and transform them into future-ready neighbourhoods which are delivered to the highest performance standards.

We engage closely with communities for the long-term, but we also understand that social responsibility starts at home, ensuring that all our staff work in a clean, safe and healthy construction environment. Our factory-based model via Vision Volumetric promotes long-term, stable employment.

2. Leading the economic transition

We work to deliver high-quality, low-carbon, sustainable buildings at scale and at pace to support the economic transition to a decarbonised built environment.

Lenders want to know that their investments will be secure in the emerging green finance environment, and our projects boast a range of verifiable sustainability credentials including high BREEAM and EPC ratings, as well as embodied carbon figures well ahead of RIBA and LETI targets. By driving sustainable investment in the volumetric sector in this way, we in turn are able to continue pushing the boundaries of sustainable construction.

3. Championing the sector

We will continue to lead the industry in the adoption of modern methods of construction (MMC) and raise awareness of its environmental, social and governance benefits. We work closely with institutional partners, government, national bodies and consultants advocating for the volumetric sector’s key role in creating a more efficient construction industry and to help solve the UK’s housing and construction crises.

Our projects and construction methods are also being recognised globally for their contribution to sustainable development. The Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong government and his team visited Ten Degrees to learn about volumetric delivery, and we have won a number of key of awards globally including Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat Awards in Chicago.

Affordable and clean energy

Using renewable energy where we can across our businesses is central to our strategy and we ensure our factories are powered by low carbon energy. Our buildings benefit from renewable technologies such as, air source heating systems, District Heating Networks (DHN), solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems.

Decent work and economic growth

Our factory-based approach allows us to provide stable, long-term jobs and a safer, less transient construction workforce. At the same time, volumetric technology allows us to unlock constrained urban sites, which is vital to tackling the housing crisis and creating new neighbourhoods and communities.

SDG 9

Industry innovation and infrastructure

We continue to build on the considerable advances we have made in volumetric delivery by developing and pioneering methods to improve safety, enhance quality, reduce climate impact and reduce time on site. These innovations allow us to produce high-quality homes 40-50% faster than traditional methods.

Sustainable cities and communities

By regenerating urban land, we are driving the sustainable communities of the future. We prioritise sustainable design measures, including on-site renewables and passive ‘fabric first’ measures. But we are also committed to leaving greener, healthier public spaces, with better amenities and better homes.

Responsible consumption and production

This underpins everything we do, from design to procurement, manufacturing and construction. Our optimised designs mean that we use materials efficiently and our closely controlled processes radically reduce waste, with nearly 100% of factory waste recycled and 80% less generated on site.

SDG 13

Climate action

Our primary goal is to drive the modernisation and decarbonisation of construction and real estate. Our innovative approach cuts embodied carbon by up to 50% compared to traditional methods – through major reductions in waste and vehicle movements, faster programmes and more efficient use of concrete and steel. These measures have allowed us to exceed embodied carbon targets, with recent projects outstripping industry benchmarks by more than 50%.
